meet amy
Welcome to You Are Me Yoga. My name is Amy Lenane, and I am a 500hr Certified Yoga Teacher and a Certified Personal Trainer.
My love for movement began in the early 2000s when I took my first yoga class. I fell hard for the physical practice, wanting to learn as much as possible and conquer every pose. What began as a practice focused on squeezing in as many arm balances as possible, has slowly and unconsciously morphed into something more. I no longer have the strong desire to stand on my head or hands (though that can be fun). I now just want to move through life with ease and strength.
My years of practice, teaching, and training have changed how I view movement. I once believed yoga was the end-all-be-all, but I now understand to move well we should practice different disciplines and move in different ways. Although I still practice yoga, I also swim, walk, ski, and strength train.
As a teacher, I aim to empower people to explore their bodies with curiosity and self-compassion. Everyone is unique, therefore, I place function over form and esthetics. I encourage people to listen to their bodies and honor themselves by adjusting shapes and movements to better suit their individual needs. I love to incorporate creative movement into all my offerings. Our bodies and minds thrive on a cellular level when challenged in novel ways.
When one approaches a movement practice with self-compassion, it will ultimately lead a person to be a more compassionate being in life.
behind the name
Below is a poem which inspired the name, You Are Me Yoga. It was written by a man I consider my ultimate teacher, Ram Dass. The message is why I practice. Movement brings me into the now, and to a place of compassion, not only for myself, but for all beings. As Ram Dass always said, “We are just walking each other home.”
“WE ARE ONE AND ONE IS JOY
AND JOY IS PAIN AND PAIN IS REAL
AND REAL ARE YOU AND YOU ARE ME
AND THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO BE.
WE ARE TIME AND TIME IS WISE
AND WISE IS BEAUTY AND BEAUTY IS LOVE
AND LOVE IS YOU AND YOU ARE ME
AND THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO BE.
A HAND IN HAND
A RAINY DAY
A GRAIN OF SAND
A CHILD AT PLAY
DOGS AND MOONS AND MILK AND SUN
WORLDY ALL IS ONLY ONE.
WE ARE GOD, AND GOD IS TRUTH
AND TRUTH IS LIGHT AND LIGHT IS LIFE
AND LIFE IS YOU AND YOU ARE ME
AND THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO BE.”
